Children's University

Dear Parents / Carers

Children’s University

I am really pleased to announce that our school has become the first school in Tameside to become a Children’s University School.

Children’s University is a national programme that encourages children to access learning beyond school lesson time and to gain recognition for their commitment to enhancing their own learning.  It encourages children to take part in a  wide range of activities out of the classroom and out of school.

How it will work?

Children who attend an approved activity after school will be able to gain credits towards an award.

When the children have achieved a minimum of 30 Credits they will have achieved a bronze award and will be invited to a celebration / award ceremony in the Summer term.

Children in Years 3-6 who achieve an award will be invited to a Graduation Ceremony at Salford University.  Children in Reception to Year 2 will have a celebration within school.

If your child has signed up to a Ravensfield lunchtime or after school club they are going to start collecting credits immediately. These will be recorded by the club leader.

To be considered for an award this school year, points need to be earned by 3rd April 2020.  Points collected after this will continue to be earned but will be counted the following year.

What about activities out of school?

There will also be the opportunity to earn credits for activities and clubs attended out of school.

To achieve this your club provider will need to become a Children’s University accredited provider. This is a simple online procedure but you will need to ask them to complete this directly.  The school cannot help with this.

We understand that club leaders will need some time to register and become accredited and so we will start collecting these points when school returns on the 5th November.

What do I need to do?

If your child attends a club of any sort out of school, please ask them to collect a letter from their class teacher to give directly to the club provider.

This provides details of how they can become a Children’s University approved club and contact details for them.  Unfortunately school cannot help in this process.

How can I collect points?

The purpose of the award is to encourage children to try a wide variety of activities.  Regular attendance at one activity e.g., weekly gymnastics, football, equestrian or dance lessons, will be limited to a maximum of 10  credits. More details are provided on the school website.

Points can be collected for

Taking up roles within school, eg School Council, Sports Leaders
Attending Ravensfield Lunchtime and After School Clubs
Attending Children’s University approved clubs / activities (from 5th November)
Completing a range of Children’s University Seasonal activities (these will be sent to the children shortly)
Further details of the amount of maximum credits that can be earned per activity can be found on the website under the Children’s University Section.

If you have any other queries not answered on the website please email university@ravensfield.tameside.sch.uk and we will respond as soon as is possible.

I am really excited that we have been chosen to take part in this programme and look forward to seeing lots of children taking part and graduating in July.
