Maths

One hour of each morning will be dedicated to maths . We will be focussing on achieving fluency in all of our objectives, meaning that the children become confident with the methods that they're using, and the rules behind them. Building on this, we will begin to incorporate reasoning and problem solving into our work, by applying our understanding to help us solve real life situations and problems.

We will begin the year by looking at number and place value, moving onto addition and subtraction, working with money and then building our multiplication and division knowledge.

By the end of year 4, children are expected to know all of the multiplication facts up to and including 12 x 12, as well as the related division facts. It is important that your child spends time practising their times table facts so that they are able to recite them off by heart. This will help them in lots of areas of maths, and particularly with mental calculations.

From September, children will practise the following basic number and counting skills. They need to know them by heart and be able to apply them to their maths work.  Children need to practise these facts at home to reinforce learning from school to help them become fluent.
