WELCOME TO CLASS 8
Children in this class are aged between 8 and 9.
Teacher: Miss Borrell
Teaching Assistants: Mr Stubbs & Mrs Buckley
Homework: Our homework project this half term is to design a maths game that can be used within year 4. We have been working really hard on our mental maths skills and our multiplication and division facts and the children have been developing their own learning styles. We want them to design a fun game and they will test their new game with the children in year 3 who are preparing to move up to year 4.
Along with our project homework we will send home spelling and multiplication practice. This will be sent home and Monday and needs to be returned by Friday.
PE: This is on Wednesday and Thursday. Your child needs a pair of black shorts, tracksuit bottoms or leggings, a house-colour t-shirt and a pair of pumps.
Please ensure that you child has no earrings in on PE days and that long hair is tied back.
Class 8 Super Spellers and Timestable Champs
Each week we work hard on our spellings and timestable skills. We have lots of quizzes and challenges and at the end of the week the Super Champs are displayed on the website.
This half term we will be taking part in a spelling Bee against other schools in Tameside.
The spellings for this competition come from the Y3 and Y4 list of commonly misspelled words. The competition is based on a written round and then a spoken round where spellings have to be recited, so we are looking for very cool, collected spellers!
We will be practicing them in class and as part of our homework. We will be tested on these spellings throughout the year so it is important we learn and revise them.
We have worked hard researching facts about the different Native American tribes. Take a look at our presentations.
Road Trip USA.
With our passports in hand, year 4 headed for a great American Adventure. We hit the road and travelled across the USA. Sightseeing, tasting local food, looking at historical costumes and even driving a car down Route 66. Take a look at some of the things we did.
Author homework project
We have worked really hard on our homework project. We researched different authors and created some amazing models, t-shirt designs, new and exciting stories, games and artwork.
We were lucky enough to taste lots of traditional Spanish food in class. We made our own sandwiches and cola milkshake. We also tasted olives. We learnt that children in Spain would enjoy sandwiches and milkshake after school as a snack and they would then eat dinner after 8pm.
Romeo and Juliet
We have been learning the story of Romeo and Juliet. We created our own cartoon strips and then retold the story using Thinklink on the iPad. Click on a link below and take a look.
We then write our own scripts with an alternative ending and then created our own animation using PuppetPals on the iPad. Take a look.
We have written our own potions and then we had to use our measuring skills to actually make the potion. We had great fun and they were delicious.
We have been learning how to play the recorder. We really enjoy singing and creating music.
In our topic 'Blue Abyss' we have been looking at all things linked to the oceans. We have been on an amazing trip to the Sea Life centre in Manchester, written some amazing facts, investigated food chains and the life cycle of a sea turtle and so much more!
Take a look at some of our work.
We have been writing our own dilemma stories in class. We have developed our own stories using some pictures and created our own stores.
We have been inspired by the artist Kardinsky and have created our own art work using 2d shapes and different lines to create new shapes
In maths we have been looking at 2d and 3d shapes. Take a look at our 'What shape am I?' games.
