Children in this class are aged between 6 and 7 years old.
Teacher: Miss Borrell
Teaching Assistant: Miss Potter
Year 2 is an important year for learning; it is the year when children should become competent and confident in all areas, but particularly in reading, writing and maths. We will be working hard learning new skills, practicing these skills and applying them across all lessons and subjects.
Our current topic is ‘Street Detective’ where the children will have the opportunity to learn all about our local community, the history of Dukinfield as well as practicing our map skills and writing our own instructions. This will be an amazing, colourful topic and I am very excited to be teaching it.
Homework will be sent out every Thursday and is expected to be returned the following Monday (or earlier). Homework returned on time will earn children 5 You’ve Been Spotteds and 10 team points. Children that do not return homework on time will be required to complete the homework in their own time. Homework will consist of times tables practise and spelling practise. All homework must be completed neatly, to the same standard as work in school. We will have a homework ‘champion’ award in which the best four pieces of homework will be chosen to go on display in our class each week and a prize awarded.
PE will take place on Monday afternoons. This half term we will be working with the City Coaches. PE Kits must be in school on the first day of term and they must remain in school for the whole term. All jewellery, including earrings, must be removed (covering with a plaster is not allowed). All children must take part in PE and forgetting kit twice or more will result in lunch time detentions.
Reading Books must be in school every day and will be changed up to 3 times a week. Children are expected to read at home daily – can you please make sure reading records are dated and signed each time you read at home. We will have a new reading challenge displayed on our class window. Please check your childs progress and encourage them read and change their books frequently.
Our 'Author of the half term' is Quentin Blake. We will be learning all about him, the books he has written and comparing him and his style of writing to other books we like. Please encourage your child to read his books, research facts on him and discuss what they like and dislikes about his books. You will find lots of information here https://www.quentinblake.com/
