Class 10

WELCOME TO CLASS 10

Children in this class are aged between 9 and 10.

Teacher: Miss Goulden

TA: Mr Ball

This half term...

Here are some ideas for practising your spellings

Some extra members of the class wanted to learn today...they helped us with our writing though I'm not sure they were always a bug help...

The eggs have hatched!!!

What's inside an egg. Why don't you ask Class 10? We investigated them and found out they're not quite as simple as they look!

Food tasting!!! We tasted all sorts of raw fruit and vegetables, such as papayas, fennel, spinach, rocket, avocado and plum. Some children tried lots of new food and found they enjoyed it all! Some foods caused some very funny faces!

Children produced some lovely projects as part of their highway man project homework. We had lots of writing: some love,y poems, a story and lots of biographies. We also had some weapons and small models. Well done to all the children who brought in a project!!

Fraction work. We all used resources to help us!

Today was World Book Day and the children arrived to the. Lass room decorated in Hogwarts colours. We played Muggle Quidditch (amazing fun!!!) then wrote instructions so you can play at home.

The children were put into the houses of Hogwarts and worked as teams to earn points for their house. In the end, Gryffindor won but all the teams worked hard and it was a close race.

Slytherin

MURDER!!! Children came in today to find a crime scene from the past. Look at the clues here...can you figure out what happened?

This week we tried slow writing. The children wrote a sentence at a time, following a set of instructions of features to include. The children enjoyed it and produced some amazing work...head over to the proud wall to look at what we produced.

Fairgrounds projects, February 2016

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and other carers that came to see the children's projects today.  The children have worked so hard and really enjoyed showing off their hard work.  We had some amazing projects and we all had great fun playing the games (and eating the prizes).

Look at our Shakey Hand Testers taking shape.

Investigating square and cubed numbers

In class 10 the children have been learning about angles.  Some children used a protractor for the first time.  I was really impressed with how carefully they worked and how they used their knowledge of right, acute, obtuse and reflex angles to make an estimate before they measured. This is really important when using a protractor as there are 2 numbers we can read!

CIRCUITS!!!! We had great fun investigating circuits. We found out how to light a bulb, how to make it brighter and dimmer, how switches work and investigated which materials are conductors and which are insulators. We pan to use this learning to create our own Shakey Hand Tester Game.

This week, in maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes. Some of us built the shapes to investigate faces, edges and vertices while other children investigated what a cylinder only has 2 faces and why a cone only has one face! Lots of lightbulb moments this week and some excellent reasoning for some children!

MYSTERIOUS MATERIALS! What wonderful topic homework we have had in! The children (and parents) have worked so hard over the last half term to create some wonderful projects all based around science. We've had exploding volcanoes, glow in the dark jelly, a model heart and lots more. Luckily we held this in the last week of term because the classroom has a lovely smell of vinegar and tomato ketchup from all the volcanoes!!!!

As parents already know, there have been a number of doors appearing around the school and a few strange happenings around school. Some children say they have seen fairies, elves and even goblins going in and out of these doors. Today, on Once Upon A Friday, the children designed their own door and did some creative writing to describe what sort of world and creatures were lurking behind the doors. Our doors are on display on the stairwell so if you get chance, have a read at some of the wonderful work we have written today.

Our first project homework was fantastic. I am incredibly pleased and proud of the children and how hard they have worked. Lots of helmets, tanks, guns and research done by the children as well as some lovely artwork. I hope our next projects are just as good!
